Three Anchor Bay

Three Anchor Bay is a small anchorage in Table Bay. Its name was first recorded in Dutch records of 1661, and probably refers to a defensive chain which stretched across the Bay and was probably secured in place by three anchors.
Three Anchor Bay, easily overlooked by Visitors because of the apparent seamless fusion of Green Point into Sea Point, lies in fact right where the two Suburbs meet, just 10 minutes from the City Centre of Cape Town.
Actually the beautiful upmarket Suburb almost lays claim to Signal Hill, lying as it does on the Seaward Side of the Landmark, and its little Beach is popular, particularly with sea kayakers who paddle out from Three Anchor Bay along the coast to Clifton. It’s fundamentally a rocky series of pools that are ideal for this purpose.

Follow the curve of the Road at the Coast with Lion’s Head clearly visible in the distance, and one meets up with Sea Point’s busy Promenade, and yet another well-known landmark in Cape Town, the Mouille Point lighthouse, lies behind one.
The promenade is never uneventful, whatever the time of day, and it regularly teems with city folk walking, jogging, rollerblading, skate boarding or simply drinking in the views from benches along the edge of the lawns on the Seaside Walkway.
The main reason for staying in the pretty Bay of the City is the quick access to the City centre, the V&A Waterfront, Green Point’s Stadium and the Atlantic beaches of Camps Bay and Clifton.

There are a wealth of places to visit and things to do, and Three Anchor Bay has some of the trendiest Restaurants and Pubs in the City. Neighbouring suburb, Green Point, is a pretty little village, its streets and avenues well worth a stroll, its sidewalk cafés and night time vibe real draw cards to locals and visitors alike.
