Centlivres, a Railway Siding-16 Km from Uitenhage

The Railway Siding of Centlivres was probably named in honour of John Centlivres Chase, a British settler who emigrated to South Africa in 1820, and served as Civil Commissioner of the Uitenhage District from 1849 until his retirement in 1863. He was a renowned cartographer, statistician and author. He was best known for his Natal Papers that were published in 1843.
