a Monument 2,5 km North of Graaf-Reinet. It was erected in honour of the Voortrekker leader General Andries Wilhelmus Jacobus Pretorius (1798-1853), whose forces defeated the Zulu's under Dingaan, at the Battle of Blood River in 1838. He also took the lead in concluding the Sand River Convention of 1852, which recognized the independence of the South African Republic.
