Pitso John Mosimane was born on 26 July 1964 in Kagiso Township in the Krugersdorp area, west of Johannesburg. He is a former South African football player and currently the coach of Mamelodi Sundowns in the Premier Soccer League (PSL). Mosimane is the husband to Moira Mosimane and a father to Lelentle and Kopano. He is one of the longest serving and highly rated coaches in South African football. He was also the first South African coach to win the CAF Champions League. In 2001, he was appointed as the head coach of SuperSport United, where he won several trophies until his resignation in 2007.
In September 2004, Mosimane successfully guided SuperSport United to the South African Airways Super8. In May 2005, he guided SuperSport to win the Absa Cup. That same year, Mosimane was honoured with the PSL Coach of the Year award. In addition, he served as Bafana Bafana (South African men’s national soccer team) assistant coach to Ted Dumitri at the 2006 Africa Cup of Nations. Mosimane also appeared as an assistant coach for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, where Bafana Bafana failed to make it out of the group stages despite a 2-1 victory over France. In July 2010, he was appointed as Bafana Bafana coach, a position which he occupied until June, 2012.
After Bafana Bafana, Mosimane was appointed as Sundowns’ coach in December 2012. As a coach of Sundowns, he achieved many milestones. Sundowns won their first PSL title in eight years. The following year, they won the Telkom Knockout Cup. In 2016, Mosimane lead Sundowns to their second PSL title in two years as well as victory in the CAF Champions League with victory over Zamalek in the final. As a result, in December 2016 he was ranked as the tenth best coach in the world. In January 2017, Mosimane was awarded as coach of the year for 2016 at the Global-Confederation of African Football award in Abuja, Nigeria.
