Luvuyo Mgobhozi along with three other African National Congress (ANC) members were executed in what became known as the "Quarry Road" incident near Durban on September 7, 1986.
The men were uMkhonto we Sizwe operatives, which is the armed wing of the ANC. Thabani Memela, Blessing Mabaso and Mbongeni Zondi were accused of attacking and killing an IFP councillors wife, Mrs Sabelo in September 1986. The three policemen went into KwaMushu to arrest the MK operatives whom were consequently held under suveillance at their KwaMushu hideout for seven days. Johannes Steyn, Laurence Wasserman and Mathys Botha intercepted the men on September 7, 1986, as they were allegedly preparing for an attack on a IFP councillor near the N2 Quarry Road. The policemen fired almost 50 bullets at the unarmed men, as well as planting rifles and grenade on them to cover up their shooting spree. At the Truth and Reconcilliation Council, Steyn admits to lying about the death of the four men in order to cover up their tracks.
