Faith Nonhlanhla Mazibuko

Faith Nonhlanhla Mazibuko was born on the 2 April 1965, at Charteston Location, Nigel. She completed her junior primary education at the Jabavu East Community School, and then attended St Matthews Roman Catholic School Rockville, Moroka. Mazibuko then attended Marianhill High School, in Pinetown, KwaZulu-Natal, and completed her high school education at Sekano-Ntoane Senior Secondary School. Following this, she enrolled at the University of South Africa (UNISA) majoring in Education, English and History.

Mazibuko then studied for the Executive Strategic Leadership Course at (WITS) Graduate School of Public and Management School. She studied for a Certificate in Leadership Communication and a Certificate in Public and Parliamentary Leadership at Rhodes University and the Afrika Intellectual Resources. She has a MBA in Transformational Leadership with the University of Rhodes.

In her youth, she was a member of the Soweto Students League (SSL), Soweto Youth Congress (SOYCO), Young Christian Students (YCS) and Soweto Civic Organisation. She was an executive member of the Moroka Branch African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) as a Pioneer’s Officer, elected an ANCYL Executive Committee (Soweto Zone) as the Secretary for Sports, Arts and Culture, served as Provincial Executive Committee Member (ANCYL), and was the Secretary for Sports, Arts and Culture.

 In Diepkloof she was elected as the Branch Secretary of the Vuyani Mabaxa Branch and was re-elected as an African National Congress (ANC) Regional Executive Committee Member in Greater Johannesburg. She became a Member of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature in 1996, was a Party Whip and served on portfolio and select committees of Health, Education Arts and Culture. In 2004, she was deployed to the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) as an MP representing Gauteng.

At the NCOP she served in many Ad-hoc Committees including co-chairing the Ad-hoc Committee of the National Youth Development Agency. In May 2010, she was elected as a PEC member of the ANC in Gauteng. Mazibuko was a Chairperson of the Women’s Caucus, was also a Deputy Chief Whip. Mazibuko was also a Co-Chairperson of the Joint Monitoring Committee on the Improvement of quality of life and the status of women, youth, children and people with disabilities.

After the National General elections of April 2009, she was deployed as a Member of Executive Council (MEC) of Infrastructure Development and in November 2010. Later she was redeployed as an MEC for Community Safety in the Gauteng Provincial Government. She is also currently the Provincial Deputy Secretary of the African National Congress Women’s League (ANCWL) in Gauteng.
