20 November 2005
On 20 November 2005 at 6:42, a Pretoria biker made news when he was caught travelling at a speed of 284km/h on the R59 south near Kliprivier in Ekurhuleni. The biker’s excuse for travelling at such speed was that he was late for a breakfast run.
The man was charged with reckless and negligent driving. He was later released on R1000 bail. At the time, no other offender had ever been caught travelling at such speed in the Ekurhuleni District. Road accidents due to reckless driving have become disturbingly prevalent in South Africa.
