Isaac Mofokeng was born in Rustenburg in 1981. He attended the Mokutuli and Seipone primary schools in Sebokeng and Orange Farm respectively. Later he attended the Thamsanqa secondary school at Orange Farm.
He was introduced to photography by his cousin, a freelance photographer, in 1996. Later that year bought a second hand Yashica with the profits he made from photographing school and social events with his cousin's camera.
In 1999 he matriculated and used the profits from his photography to start studying electrical engineering at Vanderbjilpark Technical in 2000. In 2001, however, he enrolled at the Vaal Triangle Technikon to study photography.
Received TEFSA loans for studies and supplemented income with freelance photography in the townships.
He is currently busy with second year of studies in photography.
