Bellington Mampe was a Poqo activist, He died in hospital while in custody.Mr Bellington Mampe died in September 1963 after being detained for 140 days at the Worcester police station.The Act he was detained under and the cause of death were undisclosed.
Although Mr Mampe died in 1963,his death was announced by the government only in 1964.In reply to a question in parliament on 29 March 1983 regarding Mr Mampe's death the minister of law and other said 'there was no record that such a person had been detained in terms of security legislation and unless further information is made available, it is impossible to ascertain from all police stations and border post in the republic whether such a person had been detained'.
