The Red House, Hiddingh Avenue, Newlands

The Red House is one of South Africa's oldest buildings, having been built in 1729. Lord Charles Somerset lived here and so did the Mayor of Claremont. It was declared a National Monument under old NMC legislation on 28 April 1978.
