ANC statement on the passing of Epainette Mbeki, 7 June 2014

A The ANC has learned with sadness the passing of Epainette Nomaka Mbeki this morning at St Dominic hospital in East London following her sickness. Her passing has made South Africa poorer given her long history of activism and her contribution in the struggle against apartheid.

Mrs Mbeki has for decades been a pillar of the Mbeki family and her community. During the absence of our stalwart Govan Mbeki due to incarceration and hiding from the police MaMBeki had to single handedly raised their kids who later joined the liberation struggle and made a sterling contribution in the struggle.

The collective of the ANC bows it`s head in honoring our mother, our stalwart and heroin. To the Moerane and Mbeki family we say your loss is our loss and in your grief we share. May her Soul rest in peace!
