ANC statement on the high court`s ruling against IT, 29 October 1998

The ANC has noted with disappointment the verdict of the High Court - Cape Division on the case between itself and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.

The ANC will be briefed by its lawyers about the judgement and reasons. Thereafter the National Working Committee will have an emergency meeting to consider the TRC report and decide on the way forward.

The ANC finds it very unfortunate that the report of the TRC is now being handed to the State President and the Nation without having given organisations and persons who may be adversely affected by the Commission`s findings an opportunity to make representation. Some of the gross inaccuracies contained in the report will now unfortunately become part of South Africa`s history.

The ANC will make a comprehensive statement on the TRC report at a media conference scheduled for 16h00 today(29 October 1998) at Albert Luthuli House, 51 Plein Street, Johannesburg.
