ANC Officials led by President Mbeki met in one of their scheduled meetings which was graced by the presence of former President Nelson Mandela, an ex - officio member of this committee.

The purpose of the meeting was to deliberate on strategic organizational issues that relate to the ANC. On the agenda, a briefing was given over current topical issues such as the AIDS issue. On this issue, (AIDS), the meeting reached a common understanding and reaffirmed the correctness of the positions taken by both the ANC and the government.

However, the meeting identified a weakness with regards to communication on the AIDS issue by all relevant structures.

The meeting ended on a positive note with an emphasis on the need to communicate more regularly both inside the ANC structures, in government and broader society.
