ANC NEC meets (30th November, - 2 December 2001), 29 November 2001

The African National Congress National Executive Committee Meeting will take place at an undisclosed venue around Johannesburg from Friday, the 30th November until Sunday, the 2nd of December, 2001. The meeting will be opened by a political overview from the President which is expected to address amongst others, issues of the economy and the state of the tripartite alliance.

The NEC meeting takes place a few days after the passing away of Joe Modise, Commander of UMKHONTO WESIZWE and first Minister of Defence in the democratic South Africa.It also takes place after the conclusion of a two - day national evaluation and planning session of the ANC which was attended amongst others by all the provincial secretaries, provincial media liaison officers, organizers and policy co-ordinators including NEC members deployed at Albert Luthuli House and the national staff. This meeting looked at the reports from all the provinces and assessed the impact of our campaigns and implementation of programmes whilst planning for 2002. The meeting ended this after-noon.

The NEC will also receive this report (Annual Report 2001) from the Secretary General including preparations for the 90th year -long Anniversary celebrations. A briefing on the state of HIV /AIDS in South Africa will be given by NEC member, Manto Tshabalala - Msimang on World Aids Day, 1st December, 2001.

The NEC will conclude on Sunday, the 2nd of December 2001 with the adoption of an organizational action plan for 2002.
